Hi everybody!
We had a baby! What!?!? and she was a leetle earlier than expected but luckily the night my water broke- that day I got a lot of errands done and the nursery almost completely set up thanks to the project manager Trish London :) and I went swimming with Kristen Larsen :) and the last thing we did before bed- washed and folded aaalll of her newborn clothes. She felt it was time I suppose.
Stats for easy viewing:
dob: 4/11/2013

weight: 7lb 15oz
length: i have no idea but she's out now so that's rad!
hair: lots of brown savage henderson hair :)
I woke Mark up around 1am when my water broke and we had about an hour of staring at each other and putting things in bags to take to the hospital and such before we got bored and sleepy- so Mark went back to sleep and I kinda rested and piddled around. We went to the hospital (Legacy Emanuel) around 8am? and yeah- wow- jacuzzi tub, birth ball and birthing tub time later she was born at 1:41 in the afternoon. :) I held her immediately and I couldn't believe the immediate relief from the labor and the how amazing she felt in my arms! simple right? totally-
So there's a little more- she had some issues with oxygenating her blood and breathing after she came out and it turns out that our little lady has Down Syndrome and a heart defect, which will need to be fixed when she is bigger. So all of the things that seemed to be problems when she was born are all actually normal to a Down baby. She has an atrioventricular canal defect which means her oxygenated and deoxygenated blood mixes in her heart via a hole that shouldn't be there. Bad tunnel Bad! About 40% of DS babies have the defect and it will be fixed by super amazing surgeons here at Legacy Emanuel when she's about 6 months old. We are here at the NICU to monitor her and to help teach her how to eat really well before she can go home, which may be 2-3 weeks. She'll have to wait a little longer to learn how to scoop those litter boxes :) just kidding- she'll probably still be right on track for that in a couple years.
So on to other things- Mark got to feel her head as she exited my premises and he got to change her first poopy diaper (I call them 'daddy diapers') and he gave her her first sponge bath- so many firsts and there are so many more to come.
She is doing so so well- the cardiologist is bored with her :) just kidding! But I have a feeling she is everyone's favorite patient so I'll brag about that a little. I'm gonna stop here because I know I just need to post this!
xxxxxooooo
