Time Flies When You're Something Something... :)

Oh my goodness we have been having the time of our lives! Albeit quite tiring, but we really really really enjoy having Cecilia around. I've turned into that person- I could gush all day but you've heard it before and so just pretend I did- let's get down to how this kid is doing!

Awesome- just for starters :)

Mark's parents visited so she got 3 whole weeks with her Grandma and Grandpa! They fell in love no problem and I think she is mighty keen on them too.

We've been out and about with her and she's great for it all! She is an angel baby- The only time she has actually really cried was the day we took her to the St. John's Bizarre in our neighborhood- it was 90 degrees here and that's hot for these parts! She was in the wrap carrier and just overheated. We took a break in the shade and she calmed down after she cooled off. But man she's got a pair of lungs! That sound cuts me to the core- I'm glad she rarely does it! Knock on wood y'all! There have been other tiny upset cries but nothing that has made me lose my mind... as of yet.

We've had a couple nutrition appointments, a cardiology appointment and we are now looking forward to her 2 month pediatrician appointment on the 17th- although she is 8 weeks as of last Thursday! She's been growing steadily and sometimes slowly but that's okay- she's growing and that is just right for her! Her last weight was at our lactation appointment Friday: 9lb 6oz.

Nutrition/Lactation Update:
She's on the lighter side but we ladies are watching our figures very closely postpartum. The nutrition appointments are paired with a lactation appointment so we get the bigger picture. We weigh her in her diaper only before we breastfeed, then weigh her after to calculate how much milk she took in or 'transferred' as they like to call it. We also measure her length and head to chart her growth. I'd like to tell you what those numbers are but I've forgotten... but hey! -she's growing! At those appointments she didn't transfer a ton but we weren't as good at it then as we are now. She's only getting breast milk but I'm pumping most of it for her right now- so she gets it in a bottle in a shorter amount of time than breast feeding. However, I think we might be taking a turn there- she has been having 10-15 to sometimes 20 minute breast feeding sessions and she's done great- she is relaxed and methodical. I think she's getting quite a bit at some of those feedings. We did a weigh/feed/weigh at Friday's appointment but she was pretty distracted so she only transferred 16mL- but I think she does at least twice that when we are doing it without an audience. :)We are also still fortifying her feeds with a little bit of formula to make each ounce 27 calories as opposed to around 21 straight breast milk.

Cardiology Update:
Since she is still a bit tachypneic (her fast breathing hasn't changed since she was born really), it was decided to start her on Lasix/Furosemide, which is a diuretic. We hope this will help to take a little fluid pressure off of her baby lungs which will allow her to breath more comfortably which will allow her to feed more easily which ( heh heh ) will then allow her effort/calories to go towards her growing big and strong instead of just fueling her fast little lungs! Phew- I'm out of breath now!!! Not really- just typing faster ;) So all this means a lot more wet diapers and maybe her surgery will be sooner rather than later. We might be looking more at 4 months instead of 6 months.

Okay enough of the patient stuff- other things:

She smiled at me for the first time this morning!
this is all i could quickly get of her first smile this morning!
She woke up on her own and we moved her into our bed to cuddle and she totally smiled! She smiles at other times too but I haven't been convinced they are cause/effect smiles- more like gas smiles ;)

She is turning her head to look at us- especially when we are talking to each other- I never thought I'd be so happy about my baby turning her head to look at me but I totally am! It's absolutely fascinating to watch this blizzard of firsts- everyday it seems like something new- even if it is so simple and seemingly innocuous. They are my favorites! I'm still working on trying to get her sneeze and sigh on video- it is so so painfully cute.

OMG her newborn onesies are gettin' tight! More so in the length than the girth, but they are looking like they will be phased out in the coming weeks. Time for 3month and 3-6month sizes!

And finally- I have taken so many pictures I can't keep track of all my favorites- so here is a brief sampling :) :) :)

Love,

Sara
